I found the following about DAVID VANCE HERIN at Corpus Christi Caller-Times (www.caller.com/)

Former Nueces County district judge, attorney dies at 55 Herin served as president for local bar association, supported Asian Cultures Museum and Educational Center By Venessa Santos Caller-Times Friends say David Vance Herin, former district judge and local attorney, was a strong and giving man. He died Thursday, Aug. 3, at the age of 55. "He was one of those quiet people you really listened to because when he spoke, it had great meaning," said Nancy Stevens. Stevens was Herin's campaign manager when he ran for election to the 148th District Court in 1982. He had been appointed to the position in 1981 by Gov. Bill Clements after Judge Noah Kennedy was moved to the 13th Court of Appeals. Herin and David Diaz, also appointed by Bill Clements in 1981, were the first Republicans to serve on the bench in Nueces County. During his legal career Herin served as president of the Nueces County Bar Association and was chairman of the Nueces County Republican Party. He also spent much of his time supporting the Asian Cultures Museum and Educational Center in Corpus Christi. He served on the museum's board of directors, including a stint as the board's president. Peggy Ahuja, former executive director for the museum, said Herin was instrumental in many of the museum's finest moments. "He was on our board and always insisted on making sure all our events were successful. He never wanted to take any of the credit," Ahuja said. "We were all richer for having him." Originally from Minnesota, Herin was a 1969 graduate of Baylor University School of Law and served as a judge advocate in the Air Force prior to going into private practice in 1973. Herin is survived by his wife, Cynthia; a daughter, Monica Semler of Round Rock; a son, David Herin Jr. of Corpus Christi; his mother, Betty Mills of Webster Groves, Mo.; his stepmother, Marge Herin of Webster Groves, Mo.; a sister, Beverly Mills of Robertsville, Mo.; and one grandchild. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Aug. 6 at Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Aug. 7 at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church. Burial will be in Seaside Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Home. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Staff writer Venessa Santos can be reached at 886-3752 or by e-mail at _santosv@caller.com
