Lawrence Baumstark, Jr.

I finally found my ’62 Yearbook, so I now can look up Larry Baumstark. I also Googled his name and dug around and found that he died in 1963. If I recall, it was another automobile accident.

There’s not a lot of text under Larry’s name in the yearbook. Not even half of one line. But I remember four things about Larry.

He lived fairly close to me in Rock Hill. He lived on Rock Hill Road north of Manchester, the part that jogged and ended at the quarry. We weren’t in elementary school together, though. His area must have been the part of Rock Hill that went to Schall school, I guess.

Larry was different from my circle of friends. I can see in the yearbook picture that, by gosh, his hair was longer than a half an inch. I also seem to think Larry was not compelled to wear white socks to school every day or a madras shirt at least once every two weeks.

Larry was a really nice guy. My refresher screen in my brain tends to put all my WGHS classmates in a warm glow. But I do remember Larry was a good guy.

I don’t remember what class or classes I might’ve taken with Larry --- maybe math --- but I also remember he was scary, scary smart. I see that neither Larry nor I made it to the Honors Graduate level, however.
